Initiatives

      Golfer's Red Book
_____________________________________________________

Thank you to all the facilities who are participating in our Golfer’s Red Book chapter initiative. We commenced distribution of the BC printed version in November which meant having the books available for the holiday season. Our consumer website www.golfersredbook.ca has also been updated with BC information.

Your Chapter Advisory Board is asking for your assistance in selling the Golfers Red Book at your facility; it is available immediately on a consignment basis. The books retail for $27.95 with your price for the books set at $17.95 plus HST. Sign out the number of books you choose and you will be invoiced only for those that you do not return. We will check in with you on a regular basis to see how sales are going.

Your support will provide a wonderful selling point that strengthens our publication and this is invaluable to our continued growth of this initiative as 100% of profits are directed to our BC Chapter Activities and Lobby Initiatives on behalf of our member facilities, most notably our recent intense efforts/WIN regarding the unfair and unnecessary cart and equipment licensing requirements and current efforts addressing Cosmetic Pesticide possible restrictions.

The stronger our publication becomes provides funds that are vital to assist our lobbying efforts in BC. If you are interested in making some extra profit and supporting our Chapter efforts with absolutely no risk, please contact Doug Ferne at 250-220-5128.  Thank you again on behalf of our BC Chapter for supporting the Golfer’s Red Book.

Congratulations to Troy Peverley – West Coast Golf Group the 2011 recipient of the Fore Season Golf Professional Award. The award recognizes an individual who is involved in all aspects of the growth, the development, the planning and goodwill of both the business and the game of golf within the Province. The NGCOA Canada BC Chapter is very proud to present this award to Troy for his efforts to make both associations stronger.

      Staff Training in Off-Season
_____________________________________________________

With the slow season officially on, go2 reminds employers that it’s a great time to focus on staff training and upgrading. BC’s renowned FOODSAFE and Serving It Right programs are a perfect starting point to get your food and beverage team up to par in knowledge and skills.

FOODSAFE Level 1 can now be conveniently completed through correspondence at www.go2hr.ca. Although not mandatory for every employee, operators of a BC foodservice business are legally required to have a FOODSAFE certificate or equivalent food safety course. When the operator is not present at least one employee must be FOODSAFE certified. It’s always best practice to have all staff FOODSAFE certified and available for scheduling. It helps you, and ultimately helps your customers.

Serving It Right is an online course at www.servingitright.com and is mandatory for:

  • Licensees, managers, and anybody who may be left in charge at a food-primary establishment.  If you have a lounge endorsement, all servers must have SIR.
  • Licensees, managers, servers, and bartenders at liquor primary establishments.
  • Licensees, managers, and sales staff at all BC retail liquor stores.
  • Licensees and managers from other Canadian jurisdictions who take employment in BC and previously received a responsible beverage service certificate from another province. Employees with certificates obtained in other Canadian provinces are encouraged to complete BC’s Serving It Right. It helps protect you and keep your customers safe.

      Par "0" Certification Program
_____________________________________________________

NGCOA Canada – BC Chapter is pleased to announce that we are continuing our partnership with EBSC and launching a new leading edge Environmental Program. The initiative is Par “0” a Certification Program that promotes environmental stewardship and eco-efficiency in the golf industry.

Par “0” is an environmental program that provides certification to golf operations who are working towards becoming environmental leaders. The program will enable golf clubs to implement plans to become “carbon neutral”.

With the public, private sector and all levels of government becoming more aware of the need for immediate action against climate change, carbon neutral golf operations gain competitive advantage within the new low-carbon economy and reap the benefits of being part of the solution.
